How do I sell a kit?

Kits allow you to group a number of products together under one code, so that you can sell them as one package both online and in-store. They are effectively a type of Assembly item that you can sell online as well as in-store. You can read more about creating and managing kits here.

If you need to sell a kit, there are a couple of extra steps compared to selling a standard item.

    Selling a kit in-store

    1) First, add the kit to your transaction like you would with any other item. If you're not sure how to do this, refer to this article for further guidance: How do I add Items to a transaction?

Don't worry that the available stock shows as N/A – this is expected. Like with an assembly, the Item Lookup Code and the Description for the kit will not show on the transaction or the receipt.

    2) If the kit you've added is a Dynamic kit, the items will be added to the transaction as normal, like with an assembly item. You can treat this as a regular transaction.

If the kit you've added is a Fixed kit, you'll be asked if you want to “break” the kit.

Do I want to break the kit?

Don't worry, you're not being asked to damage your products!

This question is basically asking you where you want to take the stock of these items from – do you want to sell one of the kits that you've already built, which are showing as available online? Or do you want to take the stock from the regular stock figures for the individual items?

Most of the time, you'll want to choose Yes – if you've put these items into a fixed kit, you generally want them to be bought together, so you'll probably have built as many kits as possible from the stock that you have. By choosing Yes, there's one less kit available to sell online, because you're selling it to the customer in front of you instead.

You'll probably only choose No if you want to keep a specific number of kits available to sell online. However, you'd also need to have only built a certain number of kits, meaning you still have enough stock of each item available, outside of the kits you've already built.

    3) If the kit contains a serialised item, you'll need to enter or select the serial number for the item to proceed with the sale.

    Selling a kit online

    1) To sell your kit online, you first need to make it active in Cloud MT. Cloud MT will treat the kit as its own item, rather than a collection of different items – so remember to include information and images for each of the individual items, as well as the whole package.

    2) The available stock of the kit will be calculated differently depending on whether your kit is Fixed or Dynamic.

    a) For Dynamic kits, Cloud MT will use the Possible Kits amount shown in the Back Office. Every time one of the items in the kit is sold or returned (whether as part of the kit or separately), or if an item is added to or removed from the kit, CloudPOS will recalculate the amount of Possible Kits and update the available stock on Cloud MT accordingly.

    b) For Fixed kits, Cloud MT will only show the kits that you've built in the Back Office as available to buy online.

    3) When you process an order that includes a kit, you can treat it exactly as you would treat any other web order. If it's a fixed kit, the system will automatically take the stock from the already built kits.

    4) If you do a return for a transaction that contained a fixed kit, the returned stock will be added to the Possible Kits figures – you'll need to build that kit again if you want it to show as available to buy online.
