Matrix items allow you to create a database item with multiple attributes, such as size or fittings.
The best practice for Matrix item creation is to create a separate Matrix per colour, if an item is available in multiple sizes and colours.
This gives you the ability to list each colour variation separately online, returning far better search results for the item under organic search results, as customers can search for the specific item by colour, rather than creating a listing that contains all colour variations and having no definition.
Once a Matrix item has been created and the items are generated, you can add more detail by adding more Dimensions. This detail will be added to the item's details in the Add to Basket grid, on the product detail page on your website. You can do this by adding the extra detail as additional Attributes in Dimension 2 and 3 after you have generated the items:

In the example above, the items have been generated.
You can use Dimensions 2 and 3 to add extra detail to an item, without that information being included in the item lookup code – this is useful on Ecommerce websites to provide more information to the customer. For example, you can add a new Dimension to provide more detail, as below:

Click on Add 3 Attribute(s) – or however many you created – and a side menu will pop out, prompting you to generate new child items for each possible combination of your existing attributes. However, as you have already generated your child items, you don't want to create more, so click on Cancel.

This will allow you to add that Dimension to your already-generated child items. To do that, click on the blue pencil icon next to the child item, then choose an attribute from the dropdown and click on Save.

Also in the screenshot above, you can click on the Aliases tab, then click on the blue New button and scan in the barcode of the item (or type it in manually) into the Alias field.

Click on Save , then Save again.
You can also add in re-stocking info (min/max) and bin location as part of the creation process. Click Edit Reorder & Restock Points and a new window will appear where you can update those values.

Any changes you make will autosave, so double check that you're happy with your changes!
