If you want to offer a temporary discount on one of your products, you can put an individual item on sale directly from its item card in the Cloud POS Back Office. This lets you set a discounted price and schedule exactly when the sale should start and end, without changing the item's regular selling price.
If you need to put a larger number of items on sale at once, it's quicker to use the Modify Item Price & Sale Price Wizard instead. This article covers how to put a single item on sale.
Setting a Sale Price on an Item
1) In the Back Office menu, under Items, select Items.
2) Use the filters to find the item you want to put on sale, then double click on it to open the item card:
3) On the General tab of the item card, find the sale section. Tick the Sale box to mark the item as on sale:
4) Enter the discounted price you want to sell the item at in the Sale Price field. Your item's regular selling price stays as it is in the Price field, so you can go back to it once the sale ends.
5) Set the Sale Start Date and Sale End Date fields to schedule when the sale price should become active and when it should end.
Running an indefinite sale
The Sale End Date is required, so if you don't have a fixed end date in mind, set a long date in the future, for example, sometime in the year 3000.
6) Click Save to apply your changes.
How Sale Pricing Displays to Your Customers
Once the sale is active, the Sale Price will be used at the Point of Sale register(s) and on your website(s) instead of the item's regular Price. On your website, this typically displays as a "Was / Now" price, showing customers the regular price alongside the discounted sale price.
Keep your Price and Sale Price separate
Always use the Sale Price field to discount an item, rather than changing the figure in the Price field itself. If you change the Price field directly, the "Was / Now" display will stop showing, as the system will treat the new figure as the item's regular selling price rather than a temporary discount.
Once the Sale End Date has passed, the item automatically reverts to selling at its regular Price, both in Point of Sale and on your website.
Frequently Asked Questions
How quickly will the sale price show on my website?
Sale price changes are sent to your website as soon as you save them, and will usually take effect immediately. In some cases, there may be a short delay before the new price appears, depending on your website's caching.
What happens to my Price when the sale ends?
Nothing changes to your regular 'Price' field. Once the 'Sale End Date' has passed, the item automatically goes back to selling at the 'Price' you already had set, both in Point of Sale and on your website.
Can I put several items on sale at once?
Yes. If you want to put a group of items on sale together, use the 'Modify Item Price & Sale Price Wizard' instead of updating each item card individually.
